I have a weird love of surveys. Apparently years of answering multiple choice questions in school ended up teaching me about a void inside that only selecting between mutually exclusive options can fulfill.
Here are some of my favorite efforts at understanding the human condition through A, B, C, D, E or all of the above.
I found this poll interesting because the characters, to me, represented different qualities of anti-social behavior. "Untrusting", "Depressed", "Disagreeable", "Mercurial", and "Introverted". That there was reasonable interest in all except Grumpy leads me to believe that there's an acceptance of "passive" behaviors, while being disagreeable is less acceptable, possibly because it is percieved as more of a choice.
I may follow up on this with another poll about other characters if I can think of those which are well known and distinctly representative.
The results to this poll were mildly unexpected, but what I liked about it is what it leads me to hypothesize about our lives online. There is a common thread of isolation online. My guess is that users tend to believe others are aware of or watching their actions more than they actually are.
There is lots of evidence of this in my own behavior and I suspect it may be true in all humans simply because of how we are trained to function in a society.
So this was just a fun idea and I enjoyed watching the comments. There were a number of people who simply didn't get the reference. This song is fairly old so its understandable considering how young the users are.
Bad news is that apparently champagne is not as appealing as it used to be.
As one of the polls where the written responses were of great interest, it was also notable that respondents to this poll were highly skewed away from core-contributors. To me, that meant that the subject matter is one that caught people's attention, and that there is a considerable group of people who do not consistently answer in this subgroup.
The actual answers were rather evenly divided and seemed someone inconsequential. The discussions about what this would mean were interesting as people imagined their thoughts in those scenarios.
Sometimes it is fun just to throw out a strange hypothetical and see what people say. In this early case, I was actually interested to see if others would suggest other foods, and they did, although the response was relatively minimal.
When I next do this, I'll need to make the question more compelling to create more of a forum for discussion.
